About Our Competitions

Newbury Camera Club runs several internal competitions during the year and we also participate in external league and inter-club competitions.

INTERNAL COMPETITIONS

The Internal League competitions comprise prints and projected digital images (PDI).

Print Competitions

The print league has 2 groups (Group1 for the more experienced photographers and Group 2 for the less experienced). There are 5 rounds in each group. Up to 2 different prints may be entered in each round.  At the end of the competition season, all of the scores are used to determine the final competition position.

 Projected Digital Image Competitions

The PDI league has 2 groups (Group1 for the more experienced photographers and Group 2 for the less experienced). There are 5 rounds in each group. Up to 2 different images may be entered in each round and most rounds are Theme based. At the end of the competition season, all of the scores are used to determine the final competition position.

In addition to the league competitions we have a number of open and themed competitions as follows:

   H. Dennis Competition- Creative Image of Artistic Merit (PDI)
Tudor Competition- Set of 3 related Black & White prints
Quarry Wood Competition - Close up colour image of a flower, plant or leaf (PDI)
Joan Wakelin Competition - Set of documentary prints (5 images in a set)
Gaston Alziary Competition - Black and White Print
Jim Irving Award - Most Improved Photographer

See Competition rules for detailed entry requirements.

Currently, the Club has no involvement with AV Presentations.

We have external judges for our competitions and it is always interesting to hear the comments of the various judges. By seeing other people's work and entering competitions, members often find that their general standard of photography steadily improves.

EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS

Newbury Camera Club is a member of the Southern Counties Photographic Federation (SCPF) and during the course of the year we take part in competitions with other clubs in the Federation. Also the SCPF organise an annual exhibition, which is held in Salisbury during January and our Club enters this event.

About Us

The inaugural meeting of Newbury Camera Club was held at 7pm on Thursday 01 February 1945 at the Tudor Cafe in Newbury (103 Northbrook Street). The cafe remained the home of the club for half a century until it moved to The Conservative Club and then to its current home at The Shaw Social Club.
