Newbury Camera Club runs serveral internal competitions during the year and we also participate in external league and inter-club competitions.
The Internal League competitions comprise prints and projected digital images. The print league has 2 groups (Group1 for the more experienced photographers and Group 2 for the less experienced). There are 5 rounds in each group. Up to 3 different images may be entered in each round. At the end of the competition season the 10 best scores are used to determine the final competition position.
Projected Digital Image Competitions
The projected digital image (PDI) league is open to all (ie there are no groups) and also has 5 rounds. Up to 2 different images may be entered in each round. Each round is theme based (eg reflections, the colour red, etc). At the end of the competition season all scores are used to find the overall competition winner.
In addition to the league competitions we have open competitions for the best:
Dennis Trophy - Creative Image of Artistic Merit (PDI)
Tudor Cup - Set of 3 related Black & White prints
Quarry Wood Trophy - Close up colour image of a flower, plant or leaf (PDI)
Joan Wakelin Cup - Set of documentary prints (5 images in a set)
Gaston Alziary Award - Black and White Image
Jim Irving Award - Most Improved Photographer
AV Presentations (maximum of 5 minutes each presentation)
We have external judges for our competitions and it is always interesting to hear the comments of the various judges. By seeing other people's work and entering competitions, members often find that their general standard of photography steadily improves.
Newbury Camera Club is a member of the Souther Photographic Federation (SPF) and during the course of the year we take part in competitions with other clubs in the Federation. Also the SPF organise an annual exhibition, which is held in Salisbury during January and our Club enters this event.
