The first set of Speciality Competitions were held on Thursday 25th October.  These comprised of

Gaston Alziary Award - This is for the Best Black and White Print

Tudor Cup Award - This is for the best SET OF THREE RELATED BLACK AND WHITE PRINTS shown as a panel.

Joan Wakelin Award - This for the best DOCUMENTARY PANEL with a human interest.  Each panel must comprise of a set of 5 images and contain a human element in all the images – the sort of pictures that would illustrate an article in a Sunday colour supplement.  The lead picture must be able to show the Judge what the subject is about and all 5 images as a whole should "tell a story". All 5 images are to be mounted onto a single mount no larger than 600mm X 500mm. The lead picture is to be noticeably larger than the other four.

It was with great pleasure that Newbury Camera Club welcomed the judge for the evening - Tony Oliver (ARPS, CPAGB, BPE2*) from Salisbury Camera Club.  Due to the number and the quality of the entries received from the club members, Tony had quite a task to reduce the number of entries in order to award 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Commended marks.

Well done to all entrants.  Here are the results

Congratulations to all and thank you to all participants for making these such successful competitions.

Newbury Camera Club was pleased to welcome a new speaker to the club - Peter Crane ARPS.

Peter gave a most informative and interesting talk on street photography.  Club members were treated to wide variety of Peter's images together with extremely helpful hints and tips on how to prepare and take good street photography images.

One of the interesting facts about Peter's techique is, as Peter says on his website

"Street photography tends to be in black & white, however I prefer to work mainly in colour which I believe is harder as colour often ‘distracts’ in images.  My post-processing work is minimal, perhaps straightening, cropping and adjusting contrast, brightness and sharpness etc."

For more details about Peter and his work please visit his website: https://www.petercrane.co.uk/

The camera club is also pleased that Peter will be coming back to judge some of our internal competitions in our 2018/2019 season

Congratulations to Rob Carpenter LRPS

In January, Rob Carpenter was awarded the Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society (LRPS).

This process took around 9 months in total and involved visits to RPS Advisory days together with help and advice from many Club members.

Presentation of the panel in Bath on the Assessment day was quite stressful but also very rewarding when the result was announced.

LRPS does not necessarily make a better photographer but is a demonstration of a high personal standard of photographic achievement.

Well done Rob!
